Entertainment report: Once a familiar face in leading roles, actor Deepa Khandakar has embraced a different phase of her career—one defined by a wider range of characters, from sisters and sisters-in-law to aunts and mothers.
Her latest role, however, has taken on a life of its own.
Playing the aunt in the television serial “Eta Amaderi Golpo,” Deepa has won over viewers to such an extent that her on-screen identity now appears to have overtaken her real one. These days, she says, even strangers on the streets often call her “Auntie” rather than by her name.
“I never imagined the aunt character in this drama would become so popular. Now, whenever I go out, many people call me ‘Auntie’ instead of calling me by my name,” Deepa said in an interview.
The popularity has given her a new, affectionate identity among viewers—one she has taken in stride.
For Deepa, moving from youthful lead roles to more mature characters is simply part of an actor’s natural journey.
“Whatever stage I am at in real life, I should portray that age and those kinds of characters on screen,” she said.
The actor is currently juggling several television projects. She is appearing in Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Raj’s serial “Phire Ashar Golpo”, alongside “Bakulpur,” “Family Express” and “Karmaphal.”
Beyond her work on screen, Deepa recently opened up about her career and personal life on “Star Stories,” a programme hosted by Pantha Afzal for Agamir Shomoy.
