Dhaka: The government has dismissed six senior police officials, including assistant police commissioner Golam Ruhani and controversial joint commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarker, from service.
The home ministry disclosed the information in separate gazettes issued on Wednesday.
According to the gazettes, the officials dismissed from service are additional superintendent of police Rajon Kumar Dash, who was in charge of 8 Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in Cox’s Bazar; DMP assistant police commissioner Golam Ruhani, superintendent of police at the office of the Khulna Range DIG Iqbal Hossain, deputy police commissioner at the office of the Chattogram Range DIG Kazi Ashraful Azim; joint commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarker, who was attached to the office of the Barishal Range DIG; and Sudip Kumar Chakraborty.
Ruhani is the younger brother of former Bangladesh Chhatra League general secretary Golam Rabbani.
Earlier, on January 1, 2026, a court ordered the freezing of 28 bank accounts and two beneficiary owner accounts held in the names of Biplab Kumar Sarker and his wife, Hosne Ara Begum.
On December 9, the same court had imposed a travel ban on Biplab Kumar Sarker, his wife Hosne Ara Begum, his brother Pronoy Kumar Sarker, and Hosne Ara’s sister, Shahanara Begum.
Among the dismissed police officers, Iqbal Hossain was a former deputy commissioner of Wari Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He was in the news for saying, ‘Shoot, one dies, the rest don’t go’ during the July uprising.
