Tangail Correspondent: Fisheries and Livestock State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku on Wednesday alleged that “allies of the autocratic regime” were conspiring to destabilise the country and urged pro-democracy forces to remain united.
Speaking at a reception for families of those killed and participants in the July uprising, organised by the Tangail district administration, Tuku said attempts to create instability would ultimately benefit “forces of fascism” and undermine democratic aspirations.
“The spirit of July belongs to all Bangladeshis, not to any individual or party,” he said, calling on those who took part in the July mass uprising against discrimination and authoritarianism to stay united.
Referring to the BNP’s political role, Tuku claimed the party had stood with every democratic movement in the country since 1971 and had never acted against democracy.
The state minister also said the government had assumed office about five and a half months ago amid a battered economy and had already begun implementing its programmes after passing the national budget.
He pledged to support employment opportunities for July uprising participants and said he would take steps to ensure free medical treatment for government-recognised July fighters in Tangail.
