Desk report: The 16th meeting of the Bangladesh-India Joint Working Group on Trade began in New Delhi on Thursday, with the two sides set to discuss a range of issues aimed at boosting bilateral trade.
The two-day meeting, which will conclude on Friday, comes as Dhaka seeks to address trade barriers and improve market access with India, one of Bangladesh’s key regional trading partners.
Officials from both countries are expected to discuss issues affecting bilateral commerce, including tariff and non-tariff barriers, customs procedures, border trade and facilitation of exports.
The talks are also likely to focus on measures to create a more favourable environment for businesses and expand trade between the neighbouring countries.
Bangladesh has long sought greater access to the Indian market and removal of various barriers faced by its exporters. India, meanwhile, has also raised issues related to trade and connectivity with Bangladesh.
The Joint Working Group provides a platform for the two countries to review outstanding trade issues and explore ways to strengthen economic ties.
The meeting is expected to conclude with discussions on possible measures to resolve pending issues and facilitate smoother bilateral trade.
