Will extend all possible support to Bangladesh in ensuring energy security: Qatari PM

Dhaka: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani on Wednesday assured that Qatar would extend all possible support to Bangladesh in ensuring energy security, particularly under the current challenging circumstances.

He described Bangladesh as a brotherly country when Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman called on the Qatari Prime Minister at his office in Doha.

During the meeting, Dr Khalilur Rahman conveyed the greetings of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the Qatari leadership.

He expressed Bangladesh’s solidarity with Qatar and commended its constructive and responsible role in promoting peace, security and stability in the region, which is important for the wider region and beyond, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed congratulated Dr Khalilur on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly and reiterated Qatar’s commitment to extending its support and cooperation for the successful discharge of his responsibilities.

Later, the Foreign Minister met with Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, and discussed issues of mutual interest.

Adviser to the Prime Minister for Finance and Planning Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir, and senior officials from both sides were present at the meetings.
