Dhaka: Fourteen underprivileged women from Dohar upazila in Dhaka have received sewing machines after applying through ‘Hello DC’, a specialised public service platform launched by the Dhaka district administration.
Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam handed over the sewing machines to the beneficiaries at a programme on Sunday.
According to the district administration, the applications submitted through the Hello DC platform were reviewed by the Dohar Upazila Administration, which verified the applicants’ socio-economic conditions. Following the verification process, 14 genuinely underprivileged, distressed, and low-income women were selected to receive the sewing machines.
Speaking at the event, Farida Khanam said the district administration is working to strengthen the government’s social protection programmes and women’s empowerment initiatives. She said the goal is not only to provide assistance but also to create self-employment opportunities that enable people to become self-reliant.
“The Hello DC service is helping ensure that government support reaches genuinely disadvantaged people quickly and efficiently,” she said.
Expressing hope that the beneficiaries would make effective use of the sewing machines, the deputy commissioner said they would be able to contribute to their families’ financial well-being and achieve greater economic independence.
The district administration said it would continue receiving applications through the Hello DC platform, verifying applicants’ eligibility, and extending various forms of assistance to deserving underprivileged and low-income people in the future.
