Dhaka: The water resources minister, MD Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, told Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday that the government would begin implementing the long-awaited Teesta project in the coming financial year, regardless of whether it is carried out under the name of the Teesta Master Plan or another title.
Participating in the general discussion on the proposed national budget for the 2026–27 financial year, the minister said that the Chinese government had pledged to extend full cooperation in the overall management of Bangladesh’s river system.
Seeking adequate budgetary allocation for the project, Anee said the government would expedite the feasibility study by engaging experts from China and, if necessary, other countries.
He said the feasibility study would be completed as quickly as possible and the work on the Teesta project would be launched within the coming financial year.
