Dhaka: In the proposed budget for the financial year 2026-27, the allocation for the defence sector has been increased by Tk 1,593 crore.
The budget was presented at the budget session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday afternoon.
The proposed budget puts the total allocation in the defence sector at Tk 42,291 crore, which is significantly higher than the outgoing fiscal year 2025-26. In the previous fiscal year, it was proposed to allocate Tk 40,698 crore for this sector, which stood at Tk 40,502 crore in the revised budget.
According to the proposed budget, Tk 38,721 crore has been allocated for the operational expenditure of the defence services and Tk 1,611 crore for development expenditure. Besides, the administrative expenditure for other services under the Ministry of Defense has been estimated at Tk 1,959 crore.
