Explosions in Tehran, Isfahan as Israel launches attacks

Explosions rock Iran’s capital, Tehran, and the cities of Tabriz and Isfahan after Israel’s military launched attacks on the country.

The bombardment comes after Iran launched a wave of missiles at northern Israel, accusing Israel of repeated violations of the ceasefire with its attacks on Lebanon.

US President Donald Trump has reportedly urged restraint during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and told The Financial Times that he calls all the shots.

The escalation comes after Israel attacked the southern suburbs of Beirut, killing at least two people and wounding 20 others.

Israel’s military says it has launched strikes on military targets in western and central Iran, after warning it would retaliate for the first Iranian attack on Israel since April

US President Donald Trump earlier urged his Israeli counterpart not to retaliate for the Iranian strikes, according to several outlets. Fox News earlier reported that Trump also told Iran “that’s enough”

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says multiple waves of missiles fired at northern Israel are “the beginning of a full week of continuous strikes.”

Most missiles targeting Israel appear to have been intercepted, and Israelis have now been told they can leave shelters.

Earlier on Sunday, Israel said it struck Hezbollah targets in southern Beirut, prompting threats of an Iranian response.

Israeli strikes on Beirut raise questions about the limits of US influence over its partner and the narrowing range of options for Washington to end the war.

Iranian local media is reporting that Tehran’s urban areas have not been targeted in Israel’s strike on central and western Iran.

Citing Tehran’s Fire Department, local media said at least two explosions were heard in western parts of the Iranian capital in the early hours of Monday morning.

We reported earlier that several explosions were also heard in the cities of Tabriz, Isfahan and near Karaj.

The scale of damage is still unclear.

Local authorities in Isfahan have been reported in state media as saying there were no casualties. No details have come through for other parts of the country.
