A five-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the fire incident at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA). The committee has been asked to submit a preliminary report by Saturday .
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat announced the formation of the committee while inspecting the affected cargo shed after the fire broke out at 11:00 pm on Friday.
“The investigation will determine the cause of the fire,” the state minister said. “A five-member committee has already been formed. The committee will also assess the extent of the damage.”
He added, “Based on our initial discussions with those working here, it appears that the fire may have originated from a short circuit. However, the question is why the short circuit occurred in the first place. A previous fire incident was also attributed to a short circuit in the investigation report. Therefore, there must have been some negligence, and we have to acknowledge that.”
The state minister further said that the committee had been instructed to submit a preliminary investigation report by 9:30 am on Saturday.
“If the incident is found to have resulted from anyone’s negligence, strict action will be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur,” he said.
Following the fire on Friday night, HSIA Executive Director Group Captain SM Ragib Samad told reporters that members of the airport’s fire service rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the blaze and brought it under control within a short time.
He also said that the fire did not disrupt flight operations at the airport.
