Trump says Iran deal ‘largely negotiated’; Pakistan says talks soon

President Donald Trump has said on social media that “an agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalisation” between the US, Iran and regional powers, adding that the deal, which includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, will be announced shortly.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says the next round of talks between the US and Iran will happen “very soon”. This comes after Pakistan held “highly productive talks” with Iranian leaders in Tehran on Saturday.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian says no decision will be made without the permission of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says some progress has been made in the past 48 hours as he reiterates that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.

Israel continues to launch air raids on southern Lebanon; at least 3,123 people have been killed since March 2, despite a ceasefire being in place.

Progress has been made on resolving the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says at a news conference in India. The top US diplomat also accuses Iran of sponsoring “terrorism” across the world and reiterates that Tehran must never have a nuclear weapon.

Iranian media report that Iran has not yet accepted any actions on its nuclear programme, a deal with the US is conditional on the release of at least part of its frozen funds and Tehran wants to allocate 30 days for procedures related to the Strait of Hormuz and 60 days for nuclear talks.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to hold a limited security cabinet meeting this evening to discuss the potential deal, Israeli media report.

An Israeli attack in central Gaza has killed three people, including a baby, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reports.
