Dhaka: The Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance has named Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Oli Ahmad as its candidate for the presidential election.
The announcement was made by alliance leader and National Citizen Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam after a meeting at the residence of the opposition leader on Bailey Road in Dhaka on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters around 1pm, Nahid said the 11 parties would take part in the presidential election.
The LDP joined the Jamaat-led coalition ahead of the national polls, a move that surprised many observers at the time.
The presidential election is scheduled for Aug 20, according to the timetable announced by the Election Commission.
